Preventing Truth Decay

I am so thankful to my teachers—also to the “teachers” of history and experience—for teaching me that no organization should revolve around any one person. The following names are testimony to this fact: Franco. Hitler. Hussein. Marcos. Mussolini. Noriega. Peròn. Stalin. Tito.

Yet dictators alone are not necessarily the point at issue here. Even good leaders are suspect. If we put too much trust in one person, what happens when he or she fails us? Or dies? There is, of course, one exception to this rule: Jesus! “I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life” (John 14:6).

Especially at this time of year when we remember and celebrate our nation’s independence I am more mindful to ultimately celebrate my dependence on God, who has never failed me and never will.
So the following from Chuck Swindoll:
Without [Jesus] who is the way, there is no going.
Without [Jesus] who is the truth, there is no knowing.
Without [Jesus] who is the life, there is no living.

Happy Dependence Day!

PS: I also am again reminded at this time of year of what someone, can't remember who, said: "Patriotism, yes; nationalism, no."
